Happy Mother’s Day

1 800 Flowers came through for me again with their 30 tulips for $39.99. It seems so much easier to buy flowers online. The 1-800-Flowers website even sends me email reminders on Jolynn’s Birthday, our Anniversary and Mothers Day. Not that I have ever forgotten any of the important dates before. I took Jolynn out to a new restaraunt in Monroe called the Sage Brush Grill and the meal was excellent. A big surprise was the quality and caliber of the service and the food in a town where the only other eatery is a greasy burger joint (we love “Bullies”). Jolynn had the half rack of BBQ ribs and I went for the prime rib smothered in sauteed mushrooms. The mashed potatoes were real and the rolls were homemade. The Sirius Jazz music in the background was the perfect touch, we will be back.

Mother’s Day morning I cooked Jolynn an omelet with hot cocoa and bought her favorite jelly-filled donuts. The kids thought it was great to have donuts and hot chocolate for breakfast (I didn’t make omelets for them). Jolynn got a couple of books and handmade cards from the kids. I got her a cheesy card that plays Rascal Flats hit “I Melt” when you open it.

The big hit was Alyssa’s first grade project for Mother’s Day. Her class made a recipe books where each of the kids in the class brought their two favorite recipes from home. The picture on the cover is worth all the trouble. Looking through the recipes I think we will be trying quite a few of them at our house. Alyssa’s favorites were chicken taco salad and Jolynn’s homemade blueberry muffins. Later tonight we will converge at Gramma Chidesters house for a Mother’s Day feast complete with dutch-oven potatos and marinated turkey steaks.
