Since purchasing our laying hens back in August we have been looking forward to the day when they would start feeding us. This past week they finally started laying eggs. I don’t think they are in full production yet but we are averaging around 6-8 eggs per day from our now 18 laying hens. The kids have enjoyed helping me feed and water the chickens each day. Recently they have been even more excited to help me search for eggs in the chicken coop. Today we found 8 brown eggs. We built a nesting box for them but only a few hens are taking advantage of the boxes. We have started sharing our eggs with family and friends since there are more than we can eat.
