Planting Spuds

Saturday the kids helped me get some potatoes in the ground. Alyssa cut the seed potato in half making sure to leave at least one eye on each piece. I dug the holes and spaced them evenly, while Hannah and her friends put the seeds into the holes. Max was in charge of pushing dirt over the holes. I spoke with a neighbor who said I shouldn’t water them again until they get a few inches out of the ground. He says it helps the roots to spread out and I’ll get higher yields that way. We planted about 48 potato seeds – Red La Soda’s again (two full rows). I planted them about 12 inches deep just like last year.
