After a long 6 hour flight from Salt Lake City, UT our big honkin Delta 767-400 touched down on a very windy day in Maui. Since I was too lazy to mess with a car rental we decided to ride in style. For not much more than a cab ride we purchased roundtrip limo service to and from the airport. The driver was a great help in getting our luggage and guiding us through the busy airport and on to our hotel. We are staying for free at the Wailea Renaissance by Marriott with my Marriott rewards points. The hotel is older but still very nice with an amazing view of the ocean.
We checked in to our hotel and were pleased to find that our ocean view room had a large private balcony. Even with the wind and the clouds and the rough seas the view was still spectacular. The grounds are extremely well kept and the exotic birds everywhere have been a nice surprise. The hotel is very open and airy with balconies, courtyards and koi ponds scattered about.
After enjoying a much needed dinner at the poolside Maui Onion Cafe we had to go check out our very own private beach. There were plenty of lounge chairs for everyone and once again the view was amazing. Across the bay you could see north towards Lahaina and to the west the island of Lanai. Because of the rough seas and high winds we didn’t see many boats on the water.
At the end of the day we were exhausted from a long day of travel. We turned in at around 8:00 pm local time which our bodies thought was more like midnight because of the time difference. The sunset was picture perfect and we left the balcony door open for a while to listen to the sound of the waves. The temperature was 85 degrees and felt a little muggy but with the breeze it was just right.
